Emily Becerra Sigel

Born in Los Gatos, California

Studied and worked in art education in Bakersfield, California

Lives and works as an early childhood educator in Berkeley, California

My work investigates the intersection of nostalgia, identity, childhood, and home. Through my practice of collage and paper cutting, I reflect on the complexities of memory, spaces that shape who we become and the power of nostalgia. My work is deeply informed by growing up in several households, moving from the bay area to the central valley and then back, as well as my identity as a Mexican American woman. Searching for material, cutting, assembling and reassembling mirrors the process of piecing together memory and varied aspects of my multi-faceted self.
